This is the second of ten blogs regarding the ten components of wellness, the essential building blocks that make each of us who we really are. We need all of these ten areas to work well and efficiently with one another and in order to do so, we've got to fortify each of them. I write in-depth about all of these components in my soon-to-be-published book!
Nutrition is typically one of those areas that we all know what we should be doing, but the actual implementation part seems to struggle.
We know that we should eat a well-balanced diet. We all know that we should eat in moderation and watch portion control. We all know it is so much easier to plan a menu a week ahead and meal prep the week before.
Buuuut....
It just doesn't always happen.
Our constantly busy and on the go lifestyles interfere with what we should do and instead, we default to what's fast and easy - not always best. Oftentimes our nutrition suffers, and since food is the fuel to our bodies, poor nutrition = poor fuel. Bad fuel leads to poor performance and the trickle-down effect in our lives continues.
So what can we do?
Start simple - make little changes.
*Write a menu for the week and shop for it - try something new!
*Batch cook a few of your go-to's at the beginning of the week so they are ready for action later in the week.
*Get your family's buy-in - involve them in the process. Ask for menu requests, have them help you cook, make it fun!
And most of all, keep it simple! If we try to do too much, too quickly, it simply won't be sustainable. Maybe you start with one meal a week that you completely control. Maybe you start by just getting your mid-afternoon snacks planned and prepared so you don't completely demolish that bag of chips or candy bar when you feel that inevitable dip in energy.
Once you have one new habit locked in, try something new and master that. Little changes over time, make a BIG difference!
Now brush yourself off, come up with a realistic plan to make your nutrition and meals just a little bit easier ... and do it!
I believe in you!
Best,
