As promised, I committed to sharing some tips and ideas related to the 10 areas of wellness as I outline in my upcoming book!
This blog starts with the first area of wellness: fitness.
The daily grind can be busy, stressful, and leave you feeling like you're pulled in about 100 different directions. When there are dozens of obligations that fill our already full plate, something has to give. Oftentimes, in our pursuit of helping our family, our friends, our work, our charitable groups, our schools, our everything-else-but-ourselves, WE suffer and end up taking OURSELVES off of our own plate.
Over the next several weeks, we'll see that taking ourselves off of our own plates isn't just a 1-time simple act; it has many layers...and many compounding consequences.
When our physical fitness is no longer a priority in our lives it starts a chain of repeated, negative consequences.
A decrease in exercise can mean poor sleep habits,
poor sleep habits can mean decreased energy,
decreased energy can mean less decision making power and poor food choices,
poor food choices can lead to increased weight gain,
increased weight gain can lead to lower self-confidence,
lower self-confidence can interfere with relationships, etc. etc.
Starting a new habit, or getting back into an old habit, can be hard. Take it easy on yourself, give yourself some grace, but also be a little tough on yourself.
Dig deep and find that reason WHY you want to live a more active and healthy life (for your kids, picture your future self in 2-5 years if you DON'T start being active, etc.) What's YOUR reason?
Use that reason, your WHY, as a daily motivator, the fire you need to just keep moving.
It doesn't have to be a revolution, just a little bit more than what you're already doing. Then, after a few weeks, do a little bit more. Don't bite off more than you can handle.
But how? Schedule a fitness appointment that you simply can't miss. Find an accountability friend to join you in your new active pursuit. Set some goals and plan to tackle the goals. These are a few simple ideas - do what works for you!
Now's the time, enough 'waiting for the right time', honey, that will never come. You just have to make it happen.
Let me know what your plan is...now, go - you got this!!
Bring the joy and it will all be a little bit better :D
Best,
Brianne <3
